Transforming Autism has received funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to
expand its family support offer for families with autistic children.
Building on previous National Lottery funding which enabled the delivery of Confident Autism
Parenting courses and the creation of an online parent community, the new funding will support the
continued growth of this support. Around 200 families who take part in Transforming Autism
programmes each year will be able to access ongoing guidance, peer support and specialist
expertise.
Families will be able to take part in monthly live webinars led by professionals including
occupational therapists, psychotherapists, speech and language therapists and dieticians. Sessions
will cover practical topics parents have asked for, including sleep routines, emotional regulation,
meal planning, play and starting school. Short micro-learning resources will also be available,
covering key milestones such as weaning, autism friendly days out, applying for EHCPs and
transitions into adolescence.
A part-time Community Manager will support the growing parent community and facilitate peer
support. The project will also pilot two regional parent ambassadors in Buckinghamshire and Essex
to support local networking and in person activities. The support offer has been shaped through
consultation with 118 families and partner organisations working in early years autism support.
